Mt Hutt Swings In To 2010 Season (14-Jun-10)
Mt Hutt, New Zealand, June 14, 2010 - It was bubbles and smiles
It was bubbles and smiles all round as skiers and boarders counted down to the opening of the season at Mt Hutt Ski Area.
Keen skiers and boarders lined up from 3am for first on the chair status and while the quad express chair and Magic Carpet got underway around 9am, those waiting for the Summit Six were in line for a bit longer as the weather played early havoc with opening plans but left a nice dusting of fresh snow in its path.
The high country ski area was opened to the summit by mid morning and Ski Area Manager Dave Wilson said people were very happy with the early snow conditions.
“It was a great day with great conditions and more than 1200 turned up to enjoy a social and fun day out. We have an outstanding snow pack for this time of year with average coverage of one metre. Definitely a great start to the season.”
Those travelling to Mt Hutt were able to tune in for the first time ever to Radio Mt Hutt, broadcasting on 94.1 FM and offering up to the minute information about the day and the mountain.
Also new at Mt Hutt for 2010 is the brand new NZSki Radio Frequency (RF system) which allows for easy access to the lifts and mountain products through the innovative and personalized mypass, enclosure of the existing Magic Carpet and an expanded beginners’ area, upgrades to Skyhigh café and Huber’s Hut and improvements in the terrain parks allowing for better access and new features.
