Mt Baw Baw Is Set To Open Lifts This Queens B'day Long Weekend (06-Jun-11)

Baw Baw was blessed with a blanket of snow overnight..

Baw Baw was blessed with a blanket of snow overnight and more is expected ahead of the
Official Opening Ski Weekend, this Queen’s Birthday Weekend. With snow forecasted to
continue during the week there is an excellent chance lifts will be opening on this special
weekend, an occurrence only one every seven years. With fresh snow, a visit from Denise
Drysdale and heaps planned, the Opening of the Snow Season Weekend at Mt Baw Baw is not to be missed.

 New snow, Mt Baw Baw

After a heavy dump of snow early last month, the ground is frozen solid and in perfect condition for holding new snow. Snowfields in the northern hemisphere experienced a similar start and went on to have an excellent season, it’s looking as though we will follow suit. Mt Baw Baw CEO Leona Turra states “40cm in early May to freeze the ground and another dump this week, what more could we ask for”.

Opening weekend will kick off Friday night, come and enjoy a warm glass of mulled Gluwein, a traditional European style. Check out our Winter menu, designed by our new chefs and if you’re in the mood for a Party head over to the Alpine Hotel and be entertained by DJ Robbie.

Saturday is jam packed with activities and entertainment. Star FM will be broadcasting live in Village Central from 10am to 1pm and the mountain’s mascot Frosti Frog will be out to join in some old fashion family activities. If you have a sweet tooth don’t miss out on toasting marshmallows on the open fire and dipping fruit into the chocolate fountain.

The annual Baw Baw’s Got Talent will be judged by local celebrity Denise Drysdale, whether you’re a singer, dancer, poet or juggler, get an act together and take part in this fun event. In the afternoon local MP Gary Blackwood will be on the mountain to pop the champagne and officially open the Season in the afternoon. Our exhilarating new Tube Park will also be officially launched by Mayor Di Blackwood, a very exciting addition to the mountain.

The Bungee Tramp and Tube Park will be in operation Sunday. If you’re not out skiing, come and have a bounce and a slip and a slide. Enjoy the flavors of Gippsland with an ‘Afternoon in the Alps’, take the opportunity taste local wine and delicious fresh produce. Be entertained by a Gypsy Violinist with Tunes on the Terrace. The Park Crew will be in action outside Village Central, boxes and rails will be set up for the guys to show off their skills.

Phillip Island Nature Parks and Mt Baw Baw have teamed up this winter to offer visitors a Wild White Winter. Experience a family snow and sea adventure with great deals from Phillip Island and Mt Baw Baw. The Phillip Island penguin mascot will be joining Frosti in the snow and will be giving away passes to see the penguins.

A full event calendar, new products and a great team of staff will ensure that all visitors to Mt Baw Baw this season will have an excellent time.
