Leading Aussie Juniors Conquer Heineken ABOM Mogul Challenge (30-Aug-10)

Mt Buller, Australia, August 30, 2010 - World class Australian junior

World class Australian junior athletes Matthew Graham (Central Coast NSW) and Britteny Cox (Falls Creek, Vic) have cemented their position as two of the most exciting young international prospects in the world claiming victory in the 2010 Heineken ABOM Mogul Challenge at Mt Buller, Victoria this weekend.

The event returned to Mt Buller’s legendary summit this weekend where competitors tackled the 230m long course of bumps and jumps.

Competitors started the day with perfect clear skies for the qualification runs. Sunshine and groomed snow provided ideal conditions also for spectators cheering on the summit and taking in the spectacular freestyle and mogul skiing skills on display.

The sudden arrival of thick cloud in the afternoon resulted in the dual mogul finals being cancelled, to the disappointment of racers and spectators with the final results being drawn from the earlier qualification runs.  In the end in was the two 15-year-olds, Graham and Cox who took first place.

Over 100 world-class athletes contested the $7000 in prize money and Bolle prizes with the FIS approved event points counting towards international rankings.

In the men’s division, Graham held off a strong challenge from the American athletes Snyderman and Pather to record his second straight ABOM Mogul Challenge victory, a remarkable achievement for the young skier from the NSW Central Coast.

Britteny Cox performed a strong run in the women’s division finishing over two points clear of team-mate Tayla O’Neil and veteran Australian Karinya Turnbull in third.

Local Mt Buller skiers had great success on their home turf in the youth division taking out four of the six podium places available.
