Kumi Yama Returns to Les 2 Alpes in July (24-May-11)

Les 2 Alpes, which operates Europe’s largest summer ski area...

Les 2 Alpes, which operates Europe’s largest summer ski area, this year from 18th June to 28th August, has announced the return of its Kumi Yama event in July; one of the biggest on snow contests of the summer.

A major snowsports event: Kumi Yama runs from 1st – 3rd July. The only major snowboard meet of the summer in France brings together the whole freestyle world, including professionals and stars, all in a friendly, Japanese-themed atmosphere. Two competitions (Slopestyle and Superpipe) take place over the three days.

Events are centred on the summer snowpark at 3,400m. Over the last 17 years (since 1994) this has become an internationally renowned venue thanks to its popularity with professionals and the enormous investment made in it.

Covering 18 hectares between 3,300m and 3400m and open from 7.30am to 1pm daily it can cater for everyone from beginners to advanced riders, in classes or as individuals.

The park is served by two ski-lifts and a rope tow especially for the two pipes there are there are three separate zones to enjoy. These include a fun zone for all types of skiing (in the northern part of the South Dome with a Boardercross, whoops, two beginners tables and a box line); a pro zone (big air, tables, hips and a variety of formats: rails, container, drums...) and an advanced zone. There’s also a Cool Zone on the way to the 6.5m high, 140m long Olympic-scale Super Pipe and you can shred the whole length of the snowpark. There’s also a Big Air Bag for freestyle training on a giant mattress to avoid injury.

The Park has nine full time employees and 30 volunteer shapers every day. Summer camps have run here since 1996 with a simple concept of: One week, One Freestyle course, One lodging for One inclusive fee which also covers the cost of meals and coaching.
