Junior Freeskier Sweeps Podium In The USA (15-Mar-09)
New Hampshire, USA, March 15, 2009 - Young Wanaka Freeskier Beau-James Wells
Young Wanaka Freeskier Beau–James Wells, 13, has taken his first triumph of the year, making the podium at the Freestyle Junior Olympics in Waterville Valley, Hew Hampshire, yesterday.
Competing in the 14 and under age-class, Wells placed equal first in Halfpipe and equal second in Slopestyle.
The event is the pinnacle competition for junior freeskiers in the USA where competitors are invited to compete in each age group over five disciplines – Aerials, Moguls, Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Dual Moguls.
Wells qualified for the event through strong results in the USA Skiing Association (USSA) Freestyle Rocky Mountain Series this year.
“Beau-James was up against the best juniors in America and he was on the podium,” said Wells’ father, Bruce Wells. “He was pretty happy with that.”
Wells is a member of the Freeski Association of New Zealand (FSANZ) National Development Squad.
Snow Sports New Zealand is the official governing body and National Sports Organisation representing all snow sports in New Zealand. FSANZ is a member of Snow Sports New Zealand.
