The inaugural Indiana Jones and Terrain Park of Doom......
The inaugural Indiana Jones and Terrain Park of Doom junior snowboard slopestyle kicked off the event calendar this Saturday with perfect snow conditions and an epic showcase of talent.
Snow Park NZ team rider Jay Walsh, 18, of Wanaka, was the Junior of the Day taking out the rookie division as well as the overall prize gaining a wild card entry into the Burton Open Slopestyle.
The event, held on a mini slopestyle course began with a jam and finished with a two run final in front of Snow Park’s Woolshed Restaurant.
“It was real fun today. I really liked the course set up and I loved the first jump,” said Walsh, who’s winning run included a front 7 and back 9.
The youth division was won by Rowan Thompson, 15, of Auckland while Carlos Garcia Knight, 14, of Christchurch, and eight year old Canadian youngster A.T.V Vallet triumphed in Junior and Groms divisions respectively.
Jasmin Gallop, of Sydney, in the Rookie Division and Zoi Synnott, of Wanaka, in the Junior division were the top placing girls.
“We saw great progression from the groms to the rookies today. We’re looking forward to seeing Jay shred at the Open Slopestyle in early August.” said Joel Nichol from Burton NZ.
This successful event marks the kickoff of a jam packed event season at Snow Park NZ. The next event off the ranks is the Snow Park NZ Junior Slopestyle competition next Thursday and Friday.
