Fun For Everyone At Fernie Alpine Resort (15-Dec-10)

Fernie Alpine Resort announces an exciting and sure to be the biggest cash prize for a ski contest out there!

Fernie, British Columbia – December 14, 2010 – Fernie Alpine Resort announces an exciting and sure to be the biggest cash prize for a ski contest out there!  The Griz Exposed contest promises to award $5000 cash for finding the Griz amongst the FIVE Alpine Bowls of Fernie Alpine Resort and posing for a photo with him.  A special Griz cut-out has been designed for the contest and provides a hole for the contestant to place their head in for their photo opportunity.  The trick is that the Griz will move a total of EIGHT times on-mountain throughout the season and the contestants have to find him in all EIGHT hideouts and get their photo with him to qualify for the $5000 cash draw.   Those who only manage to get one or two photos still have a chance to win the single photo submission prize draws for a $50 RCR Gift Card (a total of eight draws will be made for each location the Griz moves to). There are also two consolation prize draws for contestants who do manage to get all EIGHT photos but are not the Grand Prize winner of the $5000 cash prize draw.  These consolation draw prizes include: 1) Kokanee Snow Dreams Ski & Stay package for 4 at Lizard Creek Lodge (January 2012),  2) First Tracks Experience for 2 (2011-12 ski season).

The contest is being ran through the Fernie Alpine Resort Facebook Fan Page (www.facebook.com/ferniealpineresort) and all photo submissions are to be posted on the Fan Page wall.   The contest commenced this past weekend (Dec 11, 2010) and photos are already being posted.  The contest runs until March 31, 2011.  Each time the Griz is on the move, Facebook fans will be notified with a post on the Fan Page wall.   More details at:  www.skifernie.com or www.facebook.com/ferniealpineresort.

The Griz Exposed contest is a great way to share some family fun while at Fernie Alpine Resort and learn the history and legends behind both the ski resort and the region.  The Legendary Griz is believed to be a mysterious mountain man who shoots his giant musket into the sky to bring down the massive snowfalls and 29’ of Legendary Powder that hit Fernie Alpine Resort each winter.   This legend has been carried forward for over 125yrs and is a great part of Fernie’s history.  Sharing the Fernie Experience was the inspiration behind both the contest and the launch of the new skifernie.com website which went live in mid-October 2010.  “The new site has a much heavier focus on images, video, and social media that capture Fernie life and celebrate Legendary Fernie Experiences”, says Matt Mosteller, VP – Sales & Marketing.  “Feature Events will also be enhanced as we get into the season so all can come enjoy the amazing events at Fernie Alpine Resort.  We also have made it easier to book a ski vacation, ski school, and lodging.  Plus, website enhancements have facilitated the ease and ability to make online purchases for discount cards like the Ski More Card offering 3 Free Days!  It is much more visual.”, added Mosteller

With an enhanced experience in-mind, Fernie Alpine Resort delivers a fantastic selection of weekly activities available in-resort for low or no-cost.  These activities include kids’ craft nights, family treasure hunts, cowboy camp sleigh rides, movie nights and more!   A special Christmas Holiday schedule commencing December 18th  and running through to January 1st, includes even more fun with skiing and photos with Santa, gingerbread house building, night skiing,  and a special New Year’s Family Fun event.  More details on the weekly activity schedules can be found on both www.skifernie.com and www.facebook.com/ferniealpineresort.
