Fresh Snow In New Zealand (19-Mar-09)
New Zealand, March 19, 2009 - New Zealand's Ruapehu has reported fresh snow
New Zealand’s Ruapehu has reported fresh snow last week.
It was 3.7 degrees in Ohakune on Thursday morning, March 12th, and Ruapehu was blanketed in a cover of fresh white snow.
At the same time it was 1 degree at Turoa’s base area with 2 – 3 cm’s of light dry snow lying around. Looking higher up there would be as much as 10cm’s on the upper slopes.
“March has definitely seen much cooler temperatures after what has been a really good warm summer.” said Mike Smith of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts.
The World Lift Ticket Price Report 2009 has indicated that because of currency exchange rate fluctuations skiing in New Zealand will be dramatically cheaper for residents of most other countries this summer when the southern hemisphere season begins in a little over two months.
