First Dutch Athlete To Win Olympic Medal On Snow Trained Indoors (01-Mar-10)
SnowWorld, Landgraaf, March 1, 2010 - The snowboarder Nicolien Sauerbreij
The snowboarder Nicolien Sauerbreij made Dutch and Olympic history, when she became the first snow sports athlete from her country to win a medal in a snow discipline. Sauerbreij’s medal was also the 100th for the Netherlands in Olympic history.
30 year old Sauerbreij won gold in the Ladies parallel giant slalom.
“This is an amazing effort, we are so proud of Nicolien.” said Koos Hendriks, director of SnowWorld.
“ SnowWorld has been sponsoring Nicolien for nine years now. We support her with our training facility in Landgraaf, an official FIS slope, combined with a four star hotel to stay in, located next to the slopes in the same building. Nicolien has visited SnowWorld on a regular basis, ever since we opened.”
A ceremony to celebrate Nicolien Sauerbreij’s success will take place in SnowWorld Zoetermeer on Tuesday March 2nd at 5pmin cooperation with the Dutch Ski Federation (NskiV).
SnowWorld organized the eighth FIS Snowboard World Cup Parallel Slalom last year but had been considering whether to continue doing so in the future.
However the centre has announced that Sauerbreij’s Olympic victory confirms that SnowWorld will organize the 9th World Cup PSL in October 2010, in Landgraaf.
“SnowWorld supports the development of new ski and snowboard talents. Therefore we are extremely happy with the approval of the plans for a new FIS slope in Zoetermeer, by the city board.” said Koos Hendriks.
