Experience The Backcountry At Panorama (15-Jan-09)

Panorama Mountain Village, B.C. – Thursday, January 15th, 2009 – Panorama Mountain Village is the perfect resort destination

Panorama Mountain Village is the perfect resort destination to experience the backcountry and be back in time for happy hour. Between days on the slopes, the resort offers authentic treks with just enough luxury for anyone to handle.

With over 20km of groomed trails, the network maintained by the Greywolf Nordic Centre is the perfect introduction to backcountry adventures. Rent a pair of Nordic skis or snowshoes and trek to the Hale Hut, a rustic backcountry warming cabin deep in the forest. At only two and a half miles from the Nordic Centre, it is remote enough to feel immersed in the wild, but close enough to bring along a bottle of wine and some cheese to enjoy once you’re there. A stack of wood is usually available to build a fire, although the hut itself has a heater if you’re not feeling up to the challenge.

For a fast-paced journey through the Rockies, nothing beats the ancient art of traveling by dog sled. Get caught up in the energy of these surprisingly small dogs with big personalities, as they speed through woodland trails of tall pines. Bundle up in the comfort of your sled and take in the breathtaking scenery of the Delphine Glacier or stand on the runners, grasp the bow, and learn how to mush your own dog sled team. You can even book a combo tour that includes an afternoon of snowmobiling. Either way, you are guaranteed an experience like never before when you sign up with Toby Creek Adventures.

You don’t need to be an expert rider or a millionaire to access powder-packed alpine slopes, scenic glaciers, and virgin forests. Hop in a helicopter and experience the backcountry with the guides from rk heliski. Flying from the heart of the village, they offer daily and multi-day heli-ski/board tours to suit everyone’s ability and budget.  You won’t soon forget the adrenalin-rush of your first heli-huddle as you disembark the chopper, and the ensuing silence as it flies away. The snow finally settles and you’re met with awe-inspiring views of endless snowy peaks. This is just the start of your day!
