Dachstein Extends Ski Season To May 1st (19-Apr-09)

Dachstein, Austria, APril 19, 2009 - Austria's Dachstein ski area has a 4.90m (over 16 foot)

Austria’s Dachstein ski area has a 4.90m (over 16 foot) snow depth on its slopes and has decided to extend the ski touring season by two weeks to the 1st May with a daily morning ski tour available at 7.30am.

Most popular is the Austrian National Ski Tour – the Dachstein Crossing, which is regarded as one of the most beautiful ski tours in the whole of the Alps. The starting point for the “National Ski Tour” is at almost 2,700 meters above sea level on the Styrian side and the end destination is located in Upper Austrian Obertrain.

The route is the most spectacular way to “experience” the UNESCO World heritage site of Dachstein. It entails a trip of over 20km (13 miles), much of it downhill! The Dachstein Crossing takes between four and five hours. www.planai.at
