Cold Night Triggers Snowmaking At Mt Buller (06-Jun-10)

Mt Buller, Australia, June 6, 2010 - While most of Mt Bullers small alpine

While most of Mt Buller' small alpine community were tucked up in bed last night the mountain's small team of snowmakers went to work creating a bit of winter magic.

The snowmaking guns on the main Bourke Street run fired into action for the first time this winter making the most of the sub zero temperatures, clear skies and dry conditions - perfect for creating snow.

Mt Buller was one of the first resorts in the world to use recycled water to make snow and is able to make snow on an area equivalent to 33 times that of the MCG when its full snowmaking operations are underway across the resort.

"The opening of the season is just one week away so this is a great time to be firing snow and starting to build the base for a cover on Bourke Street, " said Laurie Blampied, General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts.

"The forecast for this week is showing more sub zero nights in the lead in to the long weekend which is perfect for us, and we might even see some snow starting to fall for the celebrations."

Mt Buller will celebrate the official opening of the ski season next weekend with local winter Olympians Lydia Lassila, Joh Shaw, Chumpy Pullin and Katya Crema joining the festivities.
