Ideal wintry conditions for snow lovers have blasted the mountain since last weekend with 27cms of natural snow blanketing the resort and an average cover of 40cms measured across snowmaking areas by Ski Patrol this morning.
The snowguns have almost run continuously since Sunday across Mt Buller with sub zero temperatures firmly in place all week and expected through to Friday.
"We couldn't ask for a better lead in to the season" said Laurie Blampied, Buller Ski Lifts General Manager watching the snow guns firing outside his office.
"The Wombat Chair gives access to some of our most popular intermediate terrain and skiers and boarders are going to be making history this weekend. It's exciting to have such a strong start for our guests. We've not had this much terrain open for our first weekend in ten years."
Blue Bullet, Holden Express and Wombat chairlifts as well as the Bourke Street Carpet are expected to be in operation. The Mt Buller Ski & Snowboard School will also be open for business with the very first lessons of the winter.
Mt Buller will have a discounted lift pass for the opening weekend celebrations which will be confirmed soon.
