Breckenridge Plans For Peak 6 Take Step Forward (19-Jun-11)

Expansion plans by Breckenridge in Colorado...

Expansion plans by Breckenridge in Colorado, one of the most popular ski resorts in US and the top US destination for British skiers, have been given the initial go ahead by the US Forest service which controls the land where new lifts and runs would be installed.

Breckenridge, one of the six ski areas owned by Vail Resorts, aims to add 550 acres of terrain on Peak 6. Served by a new six-seater chairlift it would include a mixture of intermediate and advanced level terrain, a mix of groomed and ungroomed slopes and some terrain accessed by the new lift, some that will need to be hiked up to. There would be up to 12 new runs and full proposals are at www.breckenridgepeak6.com

The expansion plans have been moving forward for several years and the latest development is the publication of an Environmental Assessment document which is now open to public consultation for the next 45 days. If the process moves ahead without any delays the earliest that the expansion is likely to take place would be the 2012-13 season.
