Big Snowfall And Big Events For Fernie, Nakiska And Kimberley (09-Mar-10)

Fernie Alpine
Fernie Alpine Resort received a big dumping of snow overnight with a
whopping 11cm (4 inches) of new snowfall. Tradition holds true
as the annual Powder 8's Competition, happening this Saturday March 13,
is known to spur big snowfalls leading up to the event. This year, the
competition is a part of an entire weekend of fun named Powder Powder,
dedicated to a celebration of the mountain and sponsored by VW. There
are specials and activities taking place all weekend (March 13-14)
including the Powder 8's on Saturday and live music in the Griz Bar
from Rick Voisey. To celebrate the mountain and all it has to offer, a
special offer for the First Tracks program will be available all week
from March 13-19th. Experience the life of a rockstar,
Fernie-style, and hit the slopes 1 hour early before anyone else! Private
groups of up to 3 people are only $183+gst (regular price =
$269+gst). Ages 10 and up (ages 10-16 must be accompanied by an adult).
Must be booked by 5:00pm the previous day.
Coming to Fernie for the first time or want to check out new terrain? Book
a Guided Mountain Tour! Our Mountain Tour Guides provide an
introductory tour around the mountain helping familiarize guests with
the unique terrain of Fernie Alpine Resort. Mountain Tours are approx.
1.5hrs and leave at 10:30am and 1:30pm. Cost is only $9.95 per
person* and all registered guests receive a $10 RCR Gift Card. To
register for a mountain tour, please go to the TELUS Winter Sports
School Desk located in Guest Services. (*Please note: lift tickets and
rentals are NOT included in the price of the tour).

Nakiska Resort
Nakiska Ski Resort received a whopping 22cm
(9 in) of snowfall overnight. The new snowfall adds to the already
fantastic conditions that Nakiska has maintained all season long,
contributing to a record breaking season for visitors.

Kimberley Resort
Kimberley Alpine Resort has received 2cm of
snowfall in the past 24hrs with more snow on the way for overnight.
Snow conditions and temperatures will be ideal for the upcoming, first
annual Beer Fest taking place this weekend (March 13 & 14th) at
Kimberley Alpine Resort. Get ready for a celebration of great skiing
and snowboarding incorporated with the traditional Bavarian theme that
Kimberley is known for. Enjoy the outdoor beer garden featuring Labatt
selections and BBQ g brats and burgers. Live music from the amazing
Surf Dragons and a live DJ will be pumping out tunes all afternoon in
the courtyard, while Blue Smythe will entertain the après crowd in the
Stemwinder Bar & Grill until 8pm. Beer Fest fun will include
hilarious and entertaining activities such as Human Curling, Hoola-Hoop
Ski Gear Swap, Bavarian Scavenger Hunt, Human Ring Toss, and Giant
Pong! Backside Tours private party for the night of March 13 in the
Stemwinder Bar & Grill.
