Big Name Ski Areas Open Early For 2010-11 Season (06-Nov-10)

www.skiinfo.co.uk has reported that more ski areas have opened early for winter 2010-11

www.skiinfo.co.uk has reported that more ski areas have opened early for winter 2010-11. Among the resorts opening earlier than expected were Schladming and Kitzbuhel in Austria and Laax in Switzerland, Verbier has announced it hopes to open this weekend.

There are now about 20 glacier ski areas open in the Alps, as well as several non-glacier centres, plus a dozen or so centres in Scandinavia.

On Halloween there were eight areas open in the USA, including ski areas on the East and West coasts and in the MidWest. A ninth area, Killington in Vermont, opened on Tuesday, November 2nd.

Besides Verbier ski areas expecting to open this weekend include Banff, Lake Louise, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Geilo and Hemsedal in Norway.

Turoa on Mt Ruapehu in New Zealand is the only southern hemisphere ski area still open and currently says the coming weekend will be the last of its long 2010 season.
