Big Building Project At Iranian Ski Area (26-Jun-11)

Dizin, one of the leading resorts in Iran, has reported plans to make major improvements

Dizin, one of the leading resorts in Iran, has reported plans to make major improvements which the ski centre says will be due for completion before the start of the 2011-12 ski season.

Dizin was built as a flagship resort for Iran in 1969 by keen skier, the late Shah of Iran, in 1969, nine years before the country’s Islamic Revolution swept him from power and closed the country’s ski slopes for several years. In common with Iran’s other ski areas, it is among the world’s highest ski areas, with lifts between 2,600 and 3,600m high enabling the ski season to last to at least mid-May. Most of its lifts are now more than 40 years old and have received intermittent maintenance over the years.

The plans include the building (or renovation/upgrading) of six lifts. These include a new four passenger gondola from the resort base to the Chaman mid-mountain restaurant, which is being overhauled.

There will also be a new triple chairlift and an existing Doppelmayr drag is to be extended and a new quad chairlift from Chalet station to the top, to replace the current double chairlift. That lift will be moved to access the upper parking lot.

In addition all ski runs are to be upgraded and cleaned, the 14 existing lifts renovated, parking areas also improved, and most other buildings renovated or built afresh. A hands free lift system is also being installed and a media room for journalists.

Finally a new cable car will make a short connect from the top of Gholleh gondola to a new
restaurant on Sichal Peak (3506m), with a length of 250 meters and a vertical drop of 100 meters with four 6 person cabins.
