Banff National Park Officially Opens For The Ski Season (08-Nov-10)

The Lake Louise Ski Area in Banff National Park has officially opened for the season

The Lake Louise Ski Area in Banff National Park has officially opened for the season with skiers and boarders enjoying early season tracks on runs accessed via the Glacier Express Chair.

Skiing in Banff National Park offers a tri-area experience with visitors able to choose between The Lake Louise Ski Area, Sunshine Village and Mt. Norquay, which combined offers 8,000 acres of skiable terrain all on one convenient lift ticket, including free transportation to the mountains.  Sunshine Village will also open this week on November 11, followed by Mt. Norquay in early December.

The La Nina weather system is forecast to bring higher than average snowfall to Banff-Lake Louise throughout this winter, forecasting a solid ski season in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are many enhancements and developments for the season ahead at all three resorts, and in the communities of Banff and Lake Louise. Highlights include the new Skier/Boardercross and Burton Learn to Ride program at The Lake Louise Ski Area, the new Strawberry Express Quad and Creekside Restaurant at Sunshine Village, and for Mt. Norquay there will be a season long of festivities and events, as the resort celebrates its 85th birthday.

The appeal of Rocky Mountain skiing in Banff National Park is not only the on-mountain activity, but also a combination of many other winter activities unique to the area.  Visitors can enjoy winter wildlife tours, Johnson Canyon ice walks, plus snowshoeing and horse sleigh rides on Lake Louise, plus great shopping and restaurants complimented by a range of rustic to luxurious accommodation, and spa experiences.

Value Tours has packages to Ski and Explore Banff National Park from $683 per person quad share including three nights accommodation at the Fairmont Banff Springs, two nights accommodation at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and a three day tri-area lift and bus transfer ticket valid at The Lake Louise Ski Area, Sunshine Village and Mt. Norquay.  Winter wonderland optional extras include a dip in the natural Banff Upper Hot Springs from $8 per adult and $7 per child, a Winter Wildlife tour from $56 per adult and $34 per child, or an ice walk at Johnson Canyon from $74 per adult and $51 per child.  For bookings call Value Tours toll free on 1300 361 322.
