Awesome Snow Hits Queenstown Resorts (26-Jul-09)

Queenstown, New Zealand, July 26, 2009 - Skiers and riders have been raving about the snow condictions

Skiers and riders have been raving about the snow conditions at Coronet Peak and The Remarkables this week as both ski areas were hit by big July snowfalls.

The Remarkables received over 40cm of snow in the last 7 days of which 33cm was received in the last 36 hours, while Coronet Peak was also blanketed by over 28 cm of snow in the last 36 hours.

Coronet Peak’s First Tracks (where the ski area opens an hour earlier for the truly dedicated) proved popular this week as people chased the untracked snow all over the mountain.

Hamish McCrostie, Ski Area Manager at Coronet Peak, said everyone was in high spirits on the mountain.

“No one could believe how much powder we’ve had and once the skies cleared and the sun came out it was one of the best weeks of the season so far,” he said.

Ross Lawrence, Ski Area Manager at The Remarkables said conditions could not be better and more snow was on the way.

“Even though it was still snowing this morning, people were getting up early to ski and ride some fresh tracks. Plenty of smiles all round from elated guests who have been hanging for a day like this. The snow we have received over the last few days combined with the cold dry southerly snow today is making for awesome conditions right across the ski area.”

The forecast currently looks good for a blue bird weekend with more snow likely early next week.
