Annual Falls Creek Ice Plunge (02-Jun-09)

Falls Creek, Australia, June 2, 2009 - To celebrate the first day of winter

To celebrate the first day of winter the Falls Creek community holds an Ice
Plunge which is a feat held by numerous northern hemisphere communities as
fund raisers for worthy organisations.

The Falls Creek-based SES will be the benefactor from this somewhat bizarre event held in some very cold climes ranging from the Antarctic to the North Pole.

A similar response to last year (70 braved a very frosty morning and dived
into the mile high Rocky Valley Lake) have signed-up for this year¹s event
continuing a winter ritual that is continually growing in North America.

About the same number as last year (70 braved a very frosty morning and dived
into the mile high Rocky Valley Lake) have signed-up for this year¹s event
continuing a winter ritual that takes place north of the equator in their
winter.

Canadian and American "polar bear clubs" go outdoor bathing or swimming in the
middle of winter often conducted as fund-raisers for charity.

This quirky event,  to recognise the arrival of winter, kicks off a winter
season of fun-filled events at Falls Creek Alpine Resort.

The Ice Plunge happens at 10am, Monday June 1st.  Everyone who takes the
plunge and gets totally wet will receive a free T-shirt!!!!
